How To Successfully Adjust To Life as a Working Mom

Being a working mom is hard. There’s so much to think about, and you’re constantly juggling work, school, family time, and personal time. It seems like there’s never enough time in your day to tackle everything you need to do, and the struggle of working women never stops!
As Rainmakers, we know how hard it is to grow a successful business. We also know how hard it is to be a parent. That’s why we’re always learning new things, and it’s why we sat down with working mother Karyn Thomas. We’ve gathered all of her best tips and tricks, and we’ve prepared them for you!
If you’re ready to learn how to run a successful business while being a working mom, then keep scrolling!
The Power of Proximity
One of Karyn’s first tips was the power of proximity.
As a working mom, she was always going to meetings. She didn’t want to leave her family behind, so she often took her young children with her! This meant that her children were always being exposed to new ideas and advanced skill sets that will help them in the future.
Think of it like this: No matter what we’re doing, it always helps to be around people who know their stuff. As a small business owner, Karyn was always around other entrepreneurs, and she exposed her children to the same environment.
She later noticed that her kids began to mimic what she was doing. They took interest in the ideas she surrounded them with and the nitty-gritty of running a business.
That’s the power of proximity, and it’s one of Katlyn’s first tips.
Know Your Skill Set
Karyn’s second big tip is to know what you’re good at.
Everyone has a specialty. Some people are good at marketing, and others are better at behind-the-scenes administration. Regardless of what your talent is, remember that it’s a key part of being a business owner. Find people who compliment your skills and make use of their knowledge.
Over time, you’ll grow a solid foundation for your business. And, as you grow your business, you’ll be able to better understand how it works.
Karyn also recommends taking courses. When she was starting out, she invested in several business classes so she could understand how to run her business. Even if she wasn’t great at these classes, she committed herself to them!
Don’t Be Afraid of Investment
This leads us to our next big tip: Don’t be afraid to invest.
Karyn invested big in a starter course for her first Amazon business, and it paid off! She put down $4,000 of her own money to start her enterprise, and that journey soon grew into a flourishing business.
It’s a huge investment, but it’s well worth it. If you don’t put any skin in the game, then you have nothing to lose. This, Karyn says, will make you less inclined to succeed. However, if you invest big, you’ll be dedicated to your business. That’s because you’ll have a personal stake in its success!
The harder you fight, the more your business will grow!
Embrace Failure
“Brush it off!” Karyn’s always experiencing failure, and that’s what she says when she meets a wall. She tells herself to brush it off because it’s just another learning experience.
When you’re running a business, you’ll invariably come across a hurdle. Sometimes, that obstacle is just too big to overcome. Sometimes, you’ll need help; other times, you’ll realize it’s the end of the road. That’s okay! Dust yourself off and keep trying.
Every failure is a new opportunity, and your next business can grow from your last. Take the lessons you learned and apply them to your next adventure!
Know Why People Buy
Finally, Karyn’s last bit of advice is to know why people buy.
As working moms, we often think that people buy for the future. They need x, y, or z. That’s not true!
In fact, Karyn says it’s the opposite. People buy because they feel a connection. They know why a business was made, and they understand that they can help that person achieve their dreams.
If you want to harness this power, then you’ll need to realign your business. Find the “why” and build from there. Tell people why you’re running a business, and they’ll listen!
